About Abdul Karim bin Mahmoud Al Khatib

Saudi writer, historian, and media personality

His Origins:

He was born  in the city of "Yanbu" at the beginning of the month of Rajab in 1352 AH, and his  childhood was between the family store  in Yanbu Al-Bahr and his family's farms in the village of Al-Baraka in Yanbu Al-Nakhl, he lived in the custody of his father, Sheikh of the  Senussi corners in the north and the city, Mahmoud bin Hamid Al-Khatib,  as he lived in the house of his father's uncle, Sheikh Mustafa bin Muhammad Al-Khatib, based on the shrine of Yanbu and learned by him  the  ABCs of the English language.

Educational Stage:

He received his first education at the Amiri Yanbu School, and studied Arabic, grammar, morphology, and hadith science under senior scholars at the Prophet's Mosque and completed his English language study in private schools.

In 1939, the Higher Institute of Journalism was established at the Faculty of Arts, Cairo University, and the Institute was established by Dr.    Mahmoud Azmy and Dr. Taha Hussein, and the Institute was granting a higher diploma equivalent to a master's degree.

Working Life:

◆ He returned from Egypt to his hometown of Yanbu and worked as secretary of the Directorate of Telegraph and Post also worked as a delegate and correspondent for Al-Yamamah newspaper in Riyadh and in 1376 AH he moved from Yanbu to Jeddah and worked in the General Directorate of Customs day and night, he worked in the Saudi newspaper Al-Bilad as a supervisor of the local news page and in 1377 AH he cooperated with the Saudi radio in Jeddah and launched his program Farmer's Corner and a program from here and there and began to write in the local Saudi newspapers, including Al-Madina newspaper, Al-Adwaa newspaper, Arafat and Hera newspaper, Quraish magazine, and magazine Al-Manhal, and the magazine of the oil convoy and extended his writing in the Arab newspapers, in Lebanon he wrote in the newspaper Al-Ajwal and Al-Sayyad and in the Republic of Egypt the magazine Al-Musour and Akhbar Al-Youm.

◆ In 1397 AH, he joined the official broadcaster of the Saudi Radio in Jeddah, in addition to the radio work, entrusted with the management of the Office of the Director General of the Radio, from this year he visited Aramco in the Eastern Province and was the first Saudi radio to conduct a television interview with the company's president (Mr. Thomas Barger) on Aramco TV and broadcast from Jeddah Radio and published in the oil convoy magazine, he was then appointed Director of the General Culture Department of the General Directorate of Radio and in the month of Rajab in 1384 AH launched his daily program from Jeddah Radio ( In 1385 AH, he was assigned to travel to Lebanon and settled there for several months, where he supervised the production of programs, series and songs produced for the Saudi radio in Beirut commercial studios.

In 1967 AH, he was chosen to be one of the contributors to the establishment of Riyadh Radio, which was launched in the first month of Ramadan in 1384 AH, and he was appointed director of the Radio Production Department, and he also presented his daily program The Good Land for eighteen years.

◆ In 1969, he launched the first drama program from Riyadh Radio daily, prepared and directed, which is the Abu Hamdan Council, which won great fame among the masses and lasted for twelve years.

In 1974, he was commissioned to present the program Echoes of the Gulf and participated by some colleagues and made many trips to the Gulf countries and recorded a lot of meetings with princes and officials in these countries, directed many radio series, the most famous of which is the red tear, and a knight from the desert, and the spring of life, and the girl of the desert and wrote for Riyadh Radio and directed more than eighty radio plays and presented many programs, including (sail trip), worked as a general supervisor of the coordination department of the radio and worked as a general observer on programs, trained many of the Broadcasters and radio stations.

In 1968, he participated in the Conference of Arab Ministers of Information in Cairo and participated in many radio conferences organized by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations in Egypt, Jordan and Beirut.

In 1976, he was assigned to travel to the Arab Republic of Egypt and stay there for four months to see the progress of work in the People's Radio and to benefit from the experiences of this radio.

In 1980, he was appointed Administrative Director of the General Department of Publications.

In 1985, he was appointed Director of the News and Editorial Department at the Saudi Press Agency.

In 1995, he retired.

After retirement, he worked as a collaborator with the King Abdulaziz House in Riyadh, as a historical arbitrator

He was awarded the medal of honor for the pioneers of Saudi authors in recognition of his role in the renaissance of thought and authorship in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia by the Ministry of Higher Education in honor of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, His Majesty King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, may God have mercy on him.
